Shaped by Mothers
AMAMÉ was founded by two mothers and long-time AMURTEL Greece staff members who raised their children far from their home countries while navigating unfamiliar systems, languages, and cultures. Their personal experience of migration, isolation, and rebuilding life in a new country shaped the vision of AMAMÉ. The initiative was created to strengthen the long-term pathway from immediate maternal support toward social inclusion, emotional wellbeing, and economic participation. From their journey came a simple but powerful commitment:
To create a space where motherhood is supported by community, not experienced in loneliness.
Why AMAMÉ Exists
Motherhood can be one of the most transformative periods in a woman’s life, but also one of the most vulnerable, particularly for women facing poverty, displacement, discrimination, violence, or lack of social support.
AMAMÉ exists to ensure that:
No mother faces pregnancy or motherhood alone
Every mother has access to support and information
Women can rebuild confidence and independence
Mothers become active participants in their communities
Our Vision
We envision a society where all mothers, regardless of origin, language, or social status, can experience safe motherhood, access opportunities, and participate fully in community life.
Through community support, peer leadership, and empowerment programs, AMAMÉ works to contribute to a more inclusive, resilient, and equitable society in Greece.
